Meet the Teacher:

My Why, My What, and My Heart for Teaching

Hi, I'm Quennie Lim!

I’m Ms. Lim, a Special Education teacher and autism specialist with over 16 years of experience supporting children across the autism spectrum in the Philippines, Singapore, and the United States. I hold a Master of Arts in Education majoring in Special Education from the University of the Philippines and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Colegio de San Juan de Letran, and I am a licensed teacher.

My career began in the Philippines, followed by 10 years in Singapore as an Early Intervention Teacher in an autism-focused school, where I worked with children from mild to severe needs, building strong foundations in communication, behavior, and independence.

Today, I continue this work in the United States as a Special Education teacher, where I have taught middle school students in a Special Day Class and now support high school students with diverse learning needs in an inclusive and structured environment.

Throughout my career, I have completed extensive autism-focused training, including HCIA, CIA, PECS, Language Development, and other specialized programs. Beyond the classroom, I have conducted in-person and online seminars, trained teachers and parents, provided consultations, and supervised special education programs.

Through these experiences, I have seen a common challenge—many parents deeply want to help their child but often lack clear, practical strategies.

This is why I created Teaching Parents About Autism: to provide simple, effective, and experience-based guidance that empowers parents, builds confidence, and helps children grow toward independence.

Why I teach Special Education?

Special education requires thinking outside the box and finding creative solutions to meet students’ diverse needs. It fosters innovation and challenges teachers to continuously adapt and refine their approaches—and that is who I am as an educator.

I consistently seek new ways to innovate, encourage creativity, and improve my teaching strategies to support my students’ growth. My goal is to make a meaningful impact in their lives and extend that support to parents who need guidance and practical strategies at home.

My teaching philosophy is grounded in collaboration. I believe in the power of strong partnerships among educators, parents, and support staff to ensure the success of students with special needs. By working together, we can share insights, resources, and effective strategies to support each child’s development.

I am committed to equipping students with the skills they need to become confident and independent learners. At the same time, I strive to create a culturally responsive learning environment where every student feels represented, understood, and valued.

More Than a Teacher: Supporting Parents with Heart

Beyond teaching students, I believe in building strong and meaningful partnerships with parents and educators. I also train teachers and aspiring educators to better support children with autism, helping create a consistent and effective approach both at school and at home.

Here’s a glimpse into one of my coaching sessions, where I guide, support, and work closely with a parent to help their child thrive.

Why I Support Parents Through Online Coaching and Training

Information on the internet can be overwhelming, disorganized, and sometimes misleading, especially for those who are unfamiliar with autism.

Teaching children with autism requires structure, consistency, and clarity—skills that cannot be learned simply by searching online.

The COVID-19 pandemic became an eye-opener for many parents and professionals. As students stayed home, many parents realized how challenging it was to support their children without enough knowledge of autism. Some struggled to manage daily routines and felt unsure about how to engage their children effectively.

At the same time, the internet can be a powerful tool. It allows us to guide and support parents in helping their children at home—even from across the world.
